Premium Green Tea – Orchid Dew is our impression of humble wild orchid among showy tropical flowers on the island. Fragrance drifts through the air and invites us to pause and enjoy the moment.
Orchid dew is a hand picked green tea with gentle floral aroma from mild oxidation, yet lighter than baozhong or oolong tea. Harvest is 2-3 leaves and a bud just like other premium green tea harvest.
Tippy harvest and green tea processing keeps the flavor of green tea while it greets you with unique floral aroma of green oolong.
Some traditional green tea varieties are known for good aroma, yet many green tea producers use a large amount of fertilizer to increase yields, which in turn compromise clean flavor and aroma.
We at Mauna Kea Tea practice natural farming. Our tea is produced imitating wild Hawaiian forest. We occasionally broadcast cover crop and vegetable seeds to add diversity in the soil following natural farming principles. Weeds and pests are recycled back into soil by our farm animals and passing wildlife. Many forms of natural cycles take place on the farm and we quietly watch them happen in deep contemplation.
We recommend you use good quality spring water with moderate amount of minerals (50-100mg/L).
Start with 2-3 grams of tea leaf per 8oz cup. Bring water to light boil at slightly higher (190-200F) than other premium green tea. Steep tea for 1-2 minutes
Hot water helps express stronger flavor and aroma of orchid dew. If bitterness is your concern, reduce steeping time. You can also extend steeping time up to 5 min for stronger aroma and deeper flavor.
